A non-profit shelter working to rescue stray and unwanted dogs. As a no-kill facility, Canine Angels houses dogs for their lifetimes if they are not adopted.

Athens animal laws:
  • Pets are allowed unconfined only if they're on your property.
  • Leashes are required in all other cases.
  • No unrestrained animals are allowed in the back of pickup trucks. Pets must be seated in a passenger seat in automobiles.
  • Animal defecation must be cleaned up on public property.
  • It is illegal for pets to defecate on someone else's private property without permission.
  • Unsanitary pet waste should not become a nuisance for neighbors.
  • It is a misdemeanor to abandon any animal.
  • It is a felony to commit "aggravated cruelty" which causes injury or death to any animal.

Cherokee County Humane Society - 770-928-5115, Web: www.cchumanesociety.org/snap.htm: Spay-Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) provides no-cost altering of companion animals for the county's residents who receive Food Stamps, Supplemental Social Security, Temporary Aid to Needy Families, Aid to Needy Blind, Medicaid, Old Age Assistance, Aid to Permanently and Totally Disabled Program, Heat Assistance Program, Assisted Lunch Program, WIC, or Rental Assistance Program.
